If you receive spam SMS messages in India, you can report them to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), which is responsible for regulating telecommunications in the country. Here’s how you can do it:
- Forward the SMS to 1909: To report spam SMS messages, you can forward the message to 1909, which is the toll-free number for reporting unsolicited messages. This will register your number with the National Do Not Call Registry, which is managed by TRAI.
- Register a complaint on the TRAI website: You can also register a complaint on the TRAI website by filling out a form. The form asks for details such as your name, mobile number, and the name and number of the sender. You can also attach a screenshot of the SMS message, if possible. The website URL for registering a complaint is https://www.nccptrai.gov.in/nccpregistry/.
- Contact your mobile service provider: You can also contact your mobile service provider and inform them about the spam SMS messages you are receiving. They may be able to take action against the sender or block the messages from reaching your phone.
- Contact your local police station: If you are receiving threatening or harassing messages, you can also contact your local police station and file a complaint.
